Go By The Stream

Go by the creek
And on a winter’s day bleek
You might find spring breaking the ice
And snow melting around snowdrops wise.

You might find spring ready to race
And leverets born for life's greatest chase.
There, in the reeds, hide the spying herons
And foxes run their neverending errands

Go by the stream
When the woodpecker green
Drums on the trunk
Making himself drunk

Drunk with the sun, with love and all that's new,
With the world ready again to renew.
Drunk with the scent of flowers and all the drumming
Ready for what's again forthcoming.

Go by the stream
Where the vultures grim
Stare down any guest
Treating him as a pest

Go by the river
Where the beaver
Is greeting his new brood
All fluffy and cute

At last, go by the brook
And leave behind your book.
Make your own poem heralding spring
The world is ready for you to sing!
