Take an enlarging glass and see
What is hiding behind the bark of a tree.
In the grass, on a leaf's reverse,
There are bugs living lives so intense!
Despite their tiny size and many hungry enemies,
Most march it alone, with few forming communities.
There are ants and busy bees.
They work hard for greater good and peace.
Their cities are complex and eco-pioneering.
Only termites can boast with better engineering.
Each little citizen of such metropolis works diligently
Knowing its role is key to the survival of their community.
Then, there are lone insects who need to use a ruse.
They pose to be someone else to utterly confuse
Their hunters, who don't know what to believe.
In this spirit, caterpillars impersonate bird's droppings or a leaf,
Whilst a scorpion fly looks like a tiny scorpion with wings,
Equipped with a scary make-believe sting.
Some butterfly wings pretend to be enormous eyes,
Fooling their predators that they are much bigger in size.
Others, like a viceroy butterfly, dress in an amber peel
Informing their hunters that they're a toxic meal!
Atlas moth's wings make it look like a snake.
Whilst a stick insect is just a real fake.
However, there are few who reverse the roles,
Hunting other insects without any remorse.
Dragonflies catch and devour their prey in flight,
Thanks to their multifaceted eyes and amazing sight.
Devil's Flower Mantis dresses like a flower soft
And waits, with appetite, for butterflies, beetles and moths.
