Of a Bird and a Tree

There was a little bird and there was a big tree. The bird was mighty small with feathers in all the colours of the rainbow. It always nested in the branches of the old lime tree.

One day the tree asked the flying rainbow why it returned every year to its wide branches. The tiny bird chirped an answer in a short song:
You are lovely.
You smell sweet in June.
You always welcome and protect me, so you are my home.

The tree somewhat surprised opened then closed its mouth. A moment later, just as usual, it opened its wooden arms to the bird and gently moved its twigs in the happiness of a friendly summer breeze. The bird started building its nest.
