In October, I visited a friend of mine, a little red squirrel. There were nuts, seeds and acorns all over her house but my friend was not home. When I was about to leave, she burst in loaded with goods, nearly knocking the door down. She was carrying horse chestnuts, walnuts and apples.
- Hello, dear friend - said I - what are you up to?
- Oh, hello. I'm gathering supplies for winter. I'm nearly done - my friend replied huffing and puffing - Would you care to join me for a cup of tea?
- I would love to, however I would not want to impose. I can see you are very busy indeed - I responded politely.
- Well, a little break will do me good. I hardly stop working these days.
My friend brewed a pot of fragrant raspberry leaf infusion and we sat quietly sipping tea for a little while in her wooden cosy house. Then, we had a bit of orange marmalade with biscuits and shared some funny stories from our past lives, giggling a lot. Suddenly and rather abruptly, my friend got up in haste and announced she ought to rush back to her work or else winter would find her unprepared. I thanked her for the lovely tea and left her to her tasks.
